Listen. Listen, listen. I’m not surprised by any of it. I mean, have you ever looked at the Habsburg family tree?
My ancestors from 1621 until about 1905 were really not at all deterred by things like, oh, being first cousins. Within that, of course, ew never (also, illegal). But first cousins were fair game.
What blows my mind is that at one point a whole bunch of already-interrelated families all uprooted themselves from Connecticut to the middle of New York and then kept intermarrying. Why? That’s so weird! Go to new places, meet the same old people and bang them. Why???
I will never understand my own people.
