Actually that’s why I chose this particular set of drawings to talk about.
Firstly: You can’t see it now, but that first piece I linked, the notes were FULL of comments and reblogs and replies from people who were like “oh wtf” “hey this is gross” and even helpful nice “hey OP I don’t know if you realize but [explanation of what’s wrong with the image]” kinds of stuff.
Since yesterday (when my friend reblogged it with something like “this is a racist depiction” and it got some traction like that) OP has blocked every single person and has gone back through all the notes to block everyone who doesn’t like it. Mm I don’t think this person is in any way unaware of the art that they drew with their own hands consistently over the period of approximately a year.
Secondly: Did you read my post? Did you see how the point was that it was a pattern? It’s every depiction of a woman of color in this fandom. Every one. That’s not oh i didn’t realize, that’s I feel this kind of way and am going to put it in all my art.
Punchline: The piece comparing Game Triss to Netflix Triss? They took the image of Game Triss from that and put it on a t-shirt to sell it. If they really didn’t think there was anything wrong with their depiction of Netflix Triss, why not put the whole piece on the shirt? Ohhh because maybe they know fine well what that is, and they don’t want to lose sales over it. Their store is full of goofy art of various characters, but none of any of the WOC. They absolutely know what that is.
And finally: this isn’t a callout post. I honestly don’t give a fuck what OP thinks. I’m not “cancelling” them, I don’t care what they do with their lives, I’m not really interested in how they feel, because they’ve made their views abundantly clear already and I don’t need to engage with that kind of thing– I’m telling you, and all the other people I’ve seen reblog this person’s art, all the other people I’ve seen reblog other things that I wondered about– I’m telling you, look harder, and also to all of the other people who, like me, were like racism in my fandom? i don’t see it!– well?
There it is.
I don’t know what kind of further chance you think an artist needs beyond approximately a year of being told repeatedly their shit is gross, but you feel free to do that when you make your post about it.
Also: how the artist feels? How the artist feels? You’re so concerned with how the artist feels? Guess what! Guess fucking what! All the women of color who’ve had to look at that art, multiple pieces, for like a year now, realizing they’re the only ones who notice, realizing this person feels that way about them, realizing all their white friends either don’t notice or don’t care, who’ve sent messages, who’ve replied hey you’re hurting me, who’ve kicked up a fuss alone or who’ve swallowed it down and got on with their lives or who’ve been driven out of the fandom– do you care about how they feel at all? Like, the feeling of oh someone didn’t like my art, a thing I did, of my free choice, with choices I made that may have been considered or not, that’s a bummer. It really is, I know!
But the feeling of oh wow someone doesn’t like my entire existence, a thing I am, a thing I can’t change, didn’t choose, shouldn’t have to be ashamed of? Kinda worse! If you can’t see how that’s kinda worse I don’t really know how to talk to you!
Ooop. You forgot about that part, huh? Or, oh, you never thought of it.
I see what’s important here. (Your picture was not posted)
