some european flags I do enjoy

cyprus: have to appreciate just, sticking a picture of the country on the flag. ‘we are the country that is shaped like this’. very nice.

san marino: pleasant & soothing colour scheme.

montenegro: the double headed eagle motif they have going in eastern europe is VERY nice but this one is the clear winner, the combo of the double headed eagle + the red and gold, just spectacular, love it.

estonia: a classic stripey flag but w a distinctive & elegant colour scheme.

belarus: love the trim at the side? distinctive & very aesthetically pleasing. like it a lot.

FUN ESTONIA FACT:

That flag is meant to be the landscape. It’s just a picture! Of what it looks like! to be in Estonia! At any given time. It’s the sky and the trees and the snow. Isn’t that fantastic?? It’s a PICTURE OF ESTONIA. They’re so proud of their austere landscape they made it their flag.

Not pictured here, but the flag of their neighbor Latvia is similarly literal: it is a narrow white horizontal stripe with maroon above and below, and it is literally a replica of the sheet a dying folk hero is said to have been wrapped in: his body left a white stripe, and the sides of the sheet were soaked through with his blood as he died, and after he was dead they took the bloody sheet and used it as a battle flag. Very literal, very badass, slightly gross. (Notably it is maroon and not red because the blood dried, see.)
