Buffalo got a White Christmas, bitches!
We’re supposed to go over to Dude’s mom’s house a quarter mile away for Christmas things, starting around 9. “Uhhh,” she texted to say, “feel free to come… early?” and Dude was like “LOL why” and she said “Ulterior motive… the street plow dumped a bunch of snow at the end of my driveway and I’m trying but it’s really heavy.”
We’ve told her not to try to shift it, we’ll come prepared to shovel our way in. (She doesn’t own a snowblower because she has a neighbor who has faithfully cleared her driveway since she was widowed in ‘03 but he’s obviously busy today. She’s fairly hale but almost 70 and doesn’t have great hand strength and we’re like no… don’t shovel.)
Anyway my dude has just gone out to find out if our snowblower works, and I’m getting myself together to relieve him at that task in a bit. I don’t think it’s that much snow, it’s just very heavy and wet, which isn’t surprising.
The excitement is that it’s going to lake-effect all day, which is a fascinating meteorological phenomenon that in practical effect means “depending on the wind you may get several feet or a dusting and we’ve no way of predicting it at all until it’s happened already so good luck to you”. [summary: cold wind blows across un-frozen Great Lake, stealing its moisture and depositing it on the land as entirely unpredictable amounts of snow. you can see how there’s no way to predict how much of that is going to happen or exactly where it’s going to land.]
Anyway– Merry Christmas to anyone celebrating that, as appropriate to time zone, and Happy Friday to anyone who doesn’t, and I love everyone in this bar but will possibly be offline for Stuff most of the day and I appreciate everyone for thinking of me. (Your picture was not posted)
