last year, this year things are just in shipping boxes, mailed unwrapped because why tf not, i'm not going to see anyone in person, so they can just open the mail, and there's the gifts, that's plenty of packaging

I’m getting annoyed with people’s misinformation about holiday recycling, but also part of my professional career is teaching people how to comply with local recycling laws, so I made this fun infographic for work (cropped to remove my job’s name)
Always check with your municipality to double check what they can and can’t take, because recycling varies from place to place, but this is applicable to NYC and most major cities (I double checked, I couldn’t find a city with different rules than this)
I’m a huge fan of homemade wrapping paper and reusable gift bags and fabric bags, because it’s just less mess to clean.
Wrapping paper (tape and all!) is recyclable, unless it’s metallic or wax coated. Cardboard toy packaging is still recyclable even if there’s still bits of plastic zip tie in it. Glossy cardboard and paper are recyclable.
Tissue paper is reusable, but not recyclable.
Remember that when we say “reduce, reuse, recycle” that’s a heirarchy! Make less waste, reuse what you can, and recycle what you can’t. That’s going to look different in every household, but hopefully this guide helps when you’re making your gift wrapping and cleanup choices. (Your picture was not posted)
