The fucking dark side of this is when you’ve made yourself something really cool, finally, after like twelve failed attempts and like, twenty years of gradually building your skills and finding the courage to try again over and over, and you have no idea how to even account for the cost of materials because so much of it was exhaustively foraged or gathered or salvaged or thrifted or gifted or you bought it for something else and so on (and foraged and gathered and salvaged stuff isn’t cheap! just because it didn’t cost you money doesn’t mean it didn’t cost you shitloads of time and interpersonal connections and so on and so forth, and like, the years of expertise learning to tell what’s worth using and how to take it apart so you can reuse it and so on and so forth)

and someone’s like

hey can you make me one?

you should sell those

(or, worse, I want to give one of those as a gift, can you make it just like that only in pink for my sister, that kind of shit)
