Geralt and young Ciri :3

Ever started something, get distracted by playing Witcher 3 for the 3rd time and after you finish it, other shit pops up and before you know it it’s been months since you’ve touched your project?

This was kind inspired by the audiobooks (ain’t nobody got time to read when there’s Witcher 3 to be played) and also a part in the game.

Last night’s Witchering was brief, as the children kept getting out of bed so DF kept playing his glitter-robots shoot-em-up game until pretty late. (Witcher is… much scarier to a tiny person who is not supposed to be downstairs and may be unnoticed at the other end of the long hallway for a moment or two while the adults attempt to determine whether the noises are the pitter-patter of little feet or something needlessly atmospheric on the surround sound.)

After the 5 year old had come down to complain that it was getting dark and she didn’t like that (what she’s felt about nightfall on every other day of 1,800some days of life, we leave up to the imagination of the reader here; we’re not sure why this was a surprise) and had been elaborately shooed back upstairs, DF finally booted up the Witcher 3, and we settled in for… mostly a bunch of mopping-up of the smaller low-level quests around Velen, preparatory to going to Novigrod for More Plot Shit.

I don’t know when kids grow out of this but when they’re little and they get excited about something and they do the Excited Panting Gasp as they run to do whatever it is? “Hee-hoo hee-hoo hee-hoo hee-hoo hee-hoo hee-hoo heee-hoo!” all the way down the hallway?

also when they’re really excited to tell you a thing and they have to stop and breathe in the middle of the fifteenth repetition of a filler word as their tiny overworked linguistic cortex fires over and over again trying to catch up?

Also as an aside, another fun thing is when a kid who is being raised well and supportively is confronted with an adverse situation of some kind and immediately begins reciting the helpful things that adults in their lives have clearly told them in similar situations. Boy is currently telling his sister, who is crying in frustration at a thing not turning out like she liked, “It’s okay! I’m making the most of my mistakes!”

Ha three minutes later, as she’s been consoled, he now is sobbing because he made a mistake he didn’t like. Oh, being seven…
