We had to take the cat in to the vet on Monday morning for a blood test (routine monitoring of her thyroid condition: she’s fine! yay!) and she dealt with it the way she usually does, by going immobile with fear, which is so sad but also so good because then she doesn’t scratch anybody and it all goes well.

anyway. this week she’s been very snuggly because it’s cold. she likes to sleep between our pillows, with her body on my arm and her back on my face.

at least once per night I notice that one of the vet techs who held her on Monday definitely had recently applied vanilla-scented hand cream.

it is fading, gradually, and mostly she smells like herself now, but it was a thing i noticed every night without fail all week. 

… shouldn’t my cat be better at bathing herself than that? but maybe it was just really strongly-scented hand cream. 

also i do take a moment to be grateful I’m not allergic to cats pretty much every time because I realize that I’m literally breathing air filtered through my cat’s fuzzy butt in order to be able to smell this. if i reacted to cat dander i would not have survived Chita’s kittenhood, which she mostly spent on my face. some cats are face cats and she is a face cat.

on a completely other note, i took the best selfie ever today with a terrible-quality cellphone clip-on lens.

i’m leaving straight from work to get to the farm tonight because Farmkid has a birthday party to go to tomorrow and both of her parents are busy and so i figured i might as well get into town a few hours earlier so i can take her. no big, right?

but there’s another party on sunday, and it’s a halloween party, and i’m taking her to that too and it has just struck me

what if i had a costume

So I sell film developing on Etsy, and I keep getting super annoyed because the site collapses my item descriptions under a Read More, and then customers don't read it, so they don't know things they need to know to buy the thing, and they buy the thing and then ask me questions the listing answers like right there for them, this is not rocket science, whatever.
anyway.
i wrote up a thing, like, here's the problem, here's what i've tried-- and one of the things I tried that had the most success is that I put the really crucial information into a little text block that I Photoshopped over the default listing image. That's been the most helpful thing, but I need to tell them more than will fit onto a single image.

The problem is that people don't read stuff, I get it, so I asked for other advice-- like, I got it, you can send an email with their order confirmation, I put the relevant info into that, but that's not customizable. I need like, a conditional thing, if they order X it asks them Y, if they order Z it reminds them it doesn't come with X included, that kind of thing. Because otherwise it's just too much information and people won't read that much.

I got a few helpful responses, a lot of commiseration (some of it quite funny), and

an astonishing number of people who didn't read the whole thing and told me I ought to try overlaying the text over the default listing photo.

Which MAKES MY POINT and is HILARIOUS but it would be really rude to tell a person who's gone out of their way to try and be helpful that they were absolutely proving my point: people just won't read shit.

alas, couldn’t find anything suitable. i’ll have to just go sans costume. i’ll take pictures instead. maybe get a hat and put a card in the hatband that says PRESS.
