I guess I’m glad I understand Yuletide now. I still don’t think I can do Yuletide proper, though, because I have read like five books in my illiterate life and haven’t watched a TV like ever. So. But maybe if I know what’s going on I’ll be less terrified this year. 

I have always watched it from afar and deemed it something Cool People Unlike Myself did. Because honestly I’m still not sure what the criteria are for a fandom to be eligible for it. And I say this as someone who every single year goes and reads the introductory post and bounces off it with like little tweeting birds and question marks around my head. 

I’m missing brain parts, I really am, and I don’t know which ones or why.

BB-8 actually has enough data to complete whatever the in-universe version is of a master’s thesis on Poe Dameron’s issues. 

“So,” Poe concluded, “you’re saying that being fucked-up makes me stupid, and lack of sex doesn’t help. So I should fuck my way to greater cognitive capability?”

IT IS NOT COGNITIVE CAPABILITY WE ARE DISCUSSING, Beep said. DON’T BE A FUCKFACE.

“Hold up,” Poe said. “So you’re saying you could tell I got laid last night because my brain activity was higher. When did you scan me?”

DURING PREFLIGHT CHECKS, B answered, prompt and smug.

“Weren’t you… doing preflight checks, at that point?” Poe asked, alarmed.

It was actually kind of genius, now that Poe thought about it. “I,” he said. “What?”

YOU THINK ABOUT THE SAME THINGS IN THE SAME ORDER EVERY TIME, BB-8 pointed out. IT MEANS YOUR BRAIN ACTIVITY IS HIGHLY CONSISTENT. REMOVES MOST OF THE VARIABLES THAT BRAIN SCANS ARE PRONE TO. THAT’S WHY IN STUDIES THEY USUALLY GIVE PATIENTS A LONG LIST OF DIFFICULT QUESTIONS THAT THEY HAVE TO ANSWER IN A SPECIFIC ORDER.

“How do you know that?” Poe asked suspiciously.

I am part of the problem instead of part of the solution of women in refrigerators. I’m aware of that. In another fic, I almost fridged the ex-wife, but then thought better of it and had her get abducted and wind up in space as a lesbian lounge singer space pirate with a fabulous girlfriend, and immediately I lost interest in the original fic and only wanted to write the lesbian space pirates. And so I never posted either part. And long story short that’s how one of several of my abandoned epic WIPs happened. I doubt anyone wants to guess, but I’ve felt like I can’t post the lesbian space pirate part because it’s a spoiler for the angsty gay dudes in love part. I should give up and post it, though.

You have instructions written down. You don’t need them, but you check them anyway. Somehow they’re different from what you remember. Have they changed since you tucked the paper in your pocket? 

You realize that you’ve lost your train of thought. You can’t remember what you were thinking before. There is only your present thought, now a loop of panic at your lost memory. 

You stop in the middle of a room. Why are you here? Which room did you come from? You leave the room and remember what you were going to do. You walk back into the room. Why are you here? 

You bring up an inside joke with a friend. They look at you blankly. They do not remember this joke. But you were there when I made it, you argue. They were not. They are not the friend you are thinking of. You realize it was your other friend, from work instead of high school, with blond hair instead of brown, tall instead of short. You do not know how these two friends are so similar in your mind. 

You refer to every experience as happening “the other day.” Was it three years ago or yesterday? You try to remember context clues. Time is not real. 

Someone asks you for an important piece of information. You have not thought about it since you saved it on your computer, labelled very clearly. You search through your files. It is not there. You find it days later by accident, labelled with a cryptic set of codes. You don’t know why you would label it this way. No one else uses this computer but you. 

You are running late. You are always running late. 

You have lost something. You check everywhere. You check everywhere again. Someone tells you to think of when you last had it. You don’t tell them that is the problem. 

You reach the end of the page. You can’t remember what you just read. 

Ok usually these “Gothic” posts are like… Exaggerated? But these are all literal non-hyperbolic things that I have done or had happen to me like. This week? Probably? (Linear time isn’t real though so who knows.) I mean. I don’t have any diagnosis but I can’t tell which of these things are supposed to be a joke.

Uh. At least two anyway. Chapter 9 is a story break and then Chapter 1 of the next bit is where Rey comes in. I’m gonna do my best to post them concurrently so it at least hurries things along.
