HA I got a chapter 8 title. BEFORE the minute I’m trying to post it! Good for me.
Living’s mostly wasting timeI’ll waste my share of mineBut it never feels too goodSo let’s don’t take too long
To Live Is To Fly. It’s a very Poe Dameron title and I managed not to use Gillian Welch for this one. And the recording on the video (static image, just audio) is actually better than the album one I’d been listening to, so, good for me.
Chapter’s almost done too. It’s like I remembered how to person, or something.
Or, wait, the opposite of that. Here’s the nasty secret: if I’m writing prolifically, it’s because I’m not really doing anything else. Sometimes people are like, wow B, you write a lot, you must be a really fast writer. And that is true. I am. But you don’t churn out the kind of wordcount I do because you’re well-adjusted.
It’s not so much a hobby as a compulsion, but God, is it deeply satisfying.
The side project with Kes and Shara got a little love this weekend too. Kes is kind of alternating between being a puppy and a shy woodland creature. Weirdly, even though their ages aren’t given, I made them really young and am actually enjoying them being real young and stupid in what feel like realistic ways? They miscommunicate and she’s too mean and he’s too scared and mostly they just fuck, and it’s very what I was like at that age only I never mated with any sweet shy woodland puppies beautiful enough to produce Poe Dameron, so, I mean, Shara wins.
But. Chapter 8. I keep wildly wavering between thinking it’s great and emotionally devastating and thinking it’s just a big old mess. But at least it’s structural and up to date; I had to tear it apart and put it back together and in so doing took it from 6200 words to over 12,000. And I got to give the guy from this early short I posted some lines within the story, proper!
Hngh my cramps are back and I gotta do more line edits and I’m trying to decide if I deserve more Kes And Shara wallowing or if I should go bang on Chapter 9 for a while.
