Oh, Google Documents. Hello. I knew I knew how to use you, if I just looked. Oh dear.
I'd been composing things idly in the "Drafts" box of Gmail, so I would have them anywhere I went and was bored at a computer. But Google Documents is much better.
Farewell, my ever getting anything work-related done at work... No, it's not that bad, but having such easy access to my WIP means that it's very, very, very hard to avoid the temptation to just nip over and write a couple of lines now and then.
I have no sense of perspective for how much time other people spend dicking around at work. I've never mastered the art of looking busy. Either I'm actually working, or I'm staring dispiritedly at the computer trying to think of something to do, or I'm working furiously on my latest WIP. Bah.
If they fired me, I could earn more in unemployment than I do here. Depressing.
But I actually did get a lot done yesterday-- one of my Sales cohorts got promoted to Sales Manager last week, and has managed not to have a personality transformation, and yet has managed to actually... Manage us. He explained a minor component of the software we use all day every day to me, which has made my job about 60% easier. "Who trained you on this?" he asked, as my face lit up in comprehension.
I thought about it. "[Other girl] showed me the other program, that we don't use, said we never switched to it, and gave me the instruction manual, after explaining that we don't use it, and use this one instead," I said. "So I opened this one and started clicking things."
"Ah," he said. "Well, if it's any consolation, she doesn't really know how to use this one either."
...
Is it any wonder I hear the siren call of my latest WIP sitting in Google Docs?
And in other news, I got all my new wheels onto my skates. There is a saga I think I neglected to tell, over the weekend while I was drowning in Martha Wells, but we'll just say there was Stupid Drama about getting these damn wheels. I did get them, and I now have a skating bag with multiple pockets in it, and so I will never be unprepared for practice again, I would hope. We'll see. Anyhow, I'm excited to try out my new wheels tonight. Bearings that turn. Novelty.
