OK I’m a partisan, but I couldn’t let that last reblog of an Anglo Saxon longhall go by without posting some photos of the longhall that I helped build. This one belongs to Regia Anglorum, and we’ve been building it –in it’s own grounds, with a forge, a defensive pallisade, a bower-house, a gate-house, moat and various other conveniences for about twenty years now. It’s situated in Kent in the grounds of a wildlife preserve.
It gets my goat that people depict the Saxon period as being uniformly brown. People loved colour then just as much, if not more, than they do now.
