the thing that begin as a mental exercise for a TGE A/U is now over 5,000 words and has deviated significantly in both tone and genre, but remains hopelessly derivative in plot and events, so it’s going to need another draft or two– but, it’s started, and that’s something, huzzah.
There were a lot of things Ena didn’t know, he was painfully aware most of the time. His tutoring had been wildly inconsistent his whole life, to the point that he wearily rather suspected that more had been actively concealed from him than taught to him, but of course he also had the added disadvantage of being not quite human in a way that none of the other people in this entire kingdom understood. His mother had given him all the knowledge she could, but she herself had been incompletely taught, and she was dead now, and that was all there was to that.
He had rather a lot left of her, more than most bereft orphans got to keep of their departed parents, but it was a mixed blessing, because what he had left of her was a semi-immortal cyborg symbiote that had been part of her consciousness and was now part of his.
