katy's home-- yay!

dragonlady7Good weekend, but too short!
Took Friday off. Cleaned house. Made chili, cornbread, fudge chunk ice cream, hot fudge (takes forever! so good), cleaned everything thoroughly, etc.
My apartment's gorgeous just now, btw, but it took me forever to achieve that.
Am pondering reorganizing my room. I want to use it as an office. So, two choices: 1) set up bed in one end of bedroom, then set up desk, or 2) disassemble bed and stack against wall, then use rest of room as office.
Do I want to maintain the convenience of my bed at the expense of working space? I dunno.
I probably will, for now. It's made up all nice and pretty for when Katy came, so my apartment looked really, really organized.
In winter I recall that room is pretty warm, so I'm going to try to put my office in there to motivate myself to spend more time in there instead of turning the heat up. :D
Boss isn't in today-- he was earlier, but now is probably at a demo. So, am a little relaxed.
Eyes burning. Am sleepy.
Got KT and Adam at JFK on Sat; their baggage didn't fit in Dave's car with them in it as well, so they rented one and we used Dave for baggage sherpa and I rode with them to give directions to my house. They then had dinner-- chili, cornbread, and banana splits. :D Yummy.
Showed them tons of photos on computer, then sent them to bed.
i was up at 5, which is getting to be my usual waking up time. We drove (caravan) up to Melrose-- they split off to get to the airport to return the car, and dave and i took the bags home. We unloaded the car, and I grumbled to note that Mom had imitated me and made them a welcome home banner. Mine was better-- the Welcome Home was all stars and stripes, and the Katy and Adam was in silver and gray with wedding rings forming the &, and a little silver bell taped to the middle of the &. Because they're getting married, so that's what that was about. :D We held it up at the airport and sarcastic German stewardesses laughed at us.
Mom had also gotten them balloons, which was nice...
We had lunch, bonded, petted the kitties, picked ticks off the kitties (picked one off me too, but it hadn't bit me yet), romped around the house, ate good food, drank good drinks, and went on a walk during the wonderful afternoon. The leaves were lovely. Melrose is lovely. I do like it there. My parents' house is beautiful. Mom had made Mexican food, so we enjoyed that a lot. Some kind of salsa with avocadoes in it... Yumm.
Had lots of nice chats with Dad; he seems to really like Dave. Adam made a very good impression on the folks as well. Dave's mildly worried that he'll have to compete to look better than Adam; so far he's felt quite lucky that he's been viewed as such a wonderful alternative to Fiona's boyfriend, Corey, who Mom just doesn't like, and now he's worried that since another good guy has showed up, he might be downgraded. Well, Adam has the definite bonus that he's actually marrying my sister, but... I think Dave is perfectly good in their eyes on his own merits. I know he amuses Dad immensely, especially in their bonding over the Light Server (eagle lamp with PC in it) in their shared dorkiness. So I think Dave will remain just fine.
We drove back fairly late, after getting Dad to help us change the windshield wipers on Dave's car (we couldn't figure out the fastener). Dave's good, like me, at being attentive and learning things Dad teaches that way, while still having Dad do most of the hard work. There's an art to it. ;) Just kidding. Anyhow, they're great wipers, and were handy during the icky ride home.
By the time we left it was after 8, and then I realized after 15 minutes that I'd forgotten my purse, so I made Dave turn around-- wallet, cellphone, keys, iPod, camera, etc.-- but we got home before 11:30, no incident, lots of fog but none too heavy.
I slept a little of the way, feeling bad but feeling drowsy. Dave was fine, fortunately. Then we got right into bed, freezing our little patoots off... I woke at 5 and had to turn the heat on because it was 50 degrees and I was worried about my frogs, who shouldn't be left so cold. I put the heat lamp on them today so they should be all right. I have to get the night light for them for tonight. I might take to turning the heat up when I get up at 4 or 5, and turning it off again after Dave gets out of the shower. I have to think it over.
I just didn't want to come to work today. I've been moderately busy, very productive, and you'd think it'd be somewhat satisfying but mostly I'm just frustrated. I don't really want to be here, and it makes me tired. I don't know...
A phone is beeping somewhere and has been for five minutes, and it's extremely irritating. Argh.
Anyway. I need to devote some time to getting my site up-- I downloaded the trial of Dreamweaver MX 2004 for Mac, and will use it to get my site up this week (i have 30 days till the demo expires)... and then I'll start promoting my writing services aggressively on message boards and the like, and hopefully I'll be able to build up a client base. Sigh... it's just so... so much time. I totally need to be fired so i can devote the attention to this that I need. Totally.
I need to start a savings account and try saving up money, too. It's hard to tell how much money I have. I haven't bought myself anything since my birthday, so I should have some savings, and it looks like there's plenty of money in there but there's a credit card bill due, some rent due, a gas bill pending, student loans pending, a cellphone bill, a landline bill... I still haven't done the math to figure out how much I need to be making. I just haven't sat down with a spreadsheet and worked it all out. I have to do that, and I will, I just... don't know how.
