All right, I'm sitting here at work bored out of my mind. The boss is gone on vacation, thankfully, and my supervisor is also gone on vacation. She left me with a difficult and complex task to do for the week. Fine. But. The task required the cooperation of another person, who quite simply does not have the time right now. I pointed that out to my supervisor before she left. She ignored me. I started to look into a number of other tasks to perform, and she told me not to, and took the information away from me, and said just to do the one.
Well, I can't do the one.
So.
It's her own fucking fault, then. There is more shit for this department to do than we have time for, and she's left me with absolutely nothing to do. I tried what I could. I've given up. They seem hell-bent on wasting great swathes of my time, so I really can't keep feeling bad about it. I should be more proactive, you say, and find more useful things to do with myself that they haven't asked me to do. To that I say really? Well, everything I take the initiative to do, they do over again in twice the time it would have taken them to do it without me in the first place. So I'm not seeing them wanting me to take initiative.
You're just saying that, you say.
No... It's happened with about six other projects. Nobody here knows how to delegate. There aren't enough people to delegate to, but those that they have, they don't use properly. There is no management, there is no one overseeing the distribution of time, and so I'm stuck working under the most disorganized woman on the planet who seems to have just about the least ability to interact humanly with underlings. I like her, sure, but I cannot work for her. I'm only happy when she leaves me the hell alone, because if she works closely with me she just insults me repeatedly. And has attempted to convince me that this is because I'm immature. But, I've tried to see it her way, and ... no, she's wrong. Nope.
So I've decided to unabashedly fuck around today. I've tried all week to do useful things. But I have run out. So, y'all get my big birthday update.

My birthday! Yes, the birthday update. Thank you all for your kind birthday wishes. They have been much appreciated. :D

I got an ice cream maker and two ice cream recipe books from Katy, who loves me and wants me to be a fat bridesmaid.
Should be fun.
Unfortunately, the ice cream maker was replaced by a set of pint glasses by Williams-Sonoma, for some unknown reason, so we're going to have to straighten that out.

Dave made me a wonderful dinner, using his father's secret Shrimp Szechuan recipe, which he has entirely mastered at last. Mmmmm, it was amazing.
And then he said "I have your present all picked out, but didn't know what size to get you." So I went through all the sizes I could think of-- 9 1/2, 14, 36DDD, 7. "How many gigs?" he asked. He drove me to the Apple Store and bought me an iPod-- a 30 GB iPod.
It's amazing!!
Well... I only have 25 GB of music. Aw! But I keep finding more CDs of mine that I haven't ripped yet. So... I have a little bit of room to grow yet. Hurrah.
It's just... it's just COOL.

I can't believe he spent that much money on me, though. I bought him an E-Z Pass for my birthday because I got him nothing for his birthday... It's hooked into my credit card so I'll be paying his tolls. Sadly, it hasn't arrived yet in the mail, so he's still got to fuss around with money. But it's on the way! (I think. I have to check up on that.)
Pretty cool...

We're going up to Albany this weekend. Mom is making me a cheesecake, and there's another present up there that was too big to mail, that they're sure will fit in Dave's car, and Ann assures me is "awesome".
So...

OK, I've thought of something work-related to do, so I'm going to go and do it. Bastages.
