Aug. 27th, 2003 01:30 pmChris Pannozzo, a good buddy of Dave's who's commented on here recently (as Dan DeFino, an old alias-- say it out loud if you don't get it), wrote an interesting essay on being a frustrated Buffalonian on his recently-begun blog. Chris' father was a politician in Buffalo, but I don't remember the details. Chris is currently a law student.
"And young people are leaving the city in droves. I dont ever want to leave, but at what point is the breaking point. Buffalo, for the most part, is the most friendly city in the world. I want to raise my children (not yet born) here. But I also want them to have a life where they have opportunities."
Sigh... I think of Buffalo as a kind of adopted home. Dave used to say things just like the above when he was drunk-- he'd talk about how much Buffalo sucked, and then talk about how he'd never go back there, and a drink later, he'd lament that he'd live there in a heartbeat if there was any job for him.
But, I know what he means. I feel similarly about the Capital Region. Much of upstate is plagued by problems like this, and when times are tough the problems are only exacerbated.
In other news, I had an awesome birthday and will be posting about it later. At the moment, sadly, I have actual work to do. That was just a quick break. :D
