a blog novel
Aug. 14th, 2003 09:07 amI don't know if anyone's ever written a blog novel. I think I might do it. I've been wanting to do something for a while. I think that would work. A humorous novel in serial installments, based on my shitty first job. You know the novel-writing convention of epistolary novels? Or journal-like novels like Bridget Jones' Diary-- I should probably read that. Or the Adrian Mole Diaries. I'd be astonished if nobody'd tried this yet. I should look it up.
A google search reveals that there is, indeed, a blog novel in progress somewhere, but it's... bizarre. Not what I'm thinking of at all. So, here we are, at the beginning of a plan. Perhaps I'll actually do it. Perhaps I won't.
The question is, do I write it live-- compose it in episodes and post it to wherever its online home ends up, with live comments enabled and the like, or do I compose it offline and post it as a completed work? Or do I compose it entirely, and have Dave help me write some kind of chron software to post it at the intervals in which it should be posted? Or do I falsify the dates and post it as a mock-up of a blog? It could be a dummy page with comments only written by me as various characters, or no comments at all.
I don't know. I also don't know how hard to apply the fictionalizing filter. But I do think it'd be a phatty idea.
:D
