Life as a Mac user
Jul. 13th, 2003 06:42 amSo far, I've had to forcibly restart the thing twice. Which is frustrating, but interesting.
See, I've had it connected to the Winbox via the network pretty much constantly since I got it. The network has gone down once, and the Winbox's connection has gone down a second time.
Both times, that's totally hosed the iMac's ability to transfer files at all. (ie, CD imports into iTunes, file transfers over the network, both of which I've been doing constantly.)
I just discovered another neat security feature. The border of the screen is shiny enough that i can watch for motion behind myself. ^.^ The box fan spinning idly in the window startled me.
Anyhow. A flaw in OS X (a known one) is that if the computer is connected to another, and the other computer or the connection goes down, it is almost impossible for OS X to recover itself. *shrug* It's been annoying so far, but that's all. I'm not anticipating problems once I've finished transferring all my files from the Windows machine.
And yes, it's a Sunday, and I'm awake... well, I was awake before 6. Distressing? A little. Not really. I have time to play, now. Later we're going into the City and I'll have to leave my precious 'pooter behind.
Its name is Thingumy, by the way, after one of the silly little creatures in Finn Family Moomintroll.
