Man. I'm working on final issues with the website-- a broken link here, an image that needs resizing there, page spacing issues here, an occasional broken image on an internal internal page. Nothing drastic. Nothing interesting. And I'm sleepy.
This is absolutely brutal.

Nothing interesting is going on anywhere. Nope nope.
And Dave hasn't emailed me today even though i've emailed him a bunch of times. It's almost quitting time for him and I don't even know that he made it to work in the first place. I'm assuming he did, as the TZB webcam has been indicating decent traffic all day.
A sobering thought is that if he had an accident that left him incommunicado for any reason, there's no identification on him or his car that would lead to them notifying me. His driver's license lists his parents' address, and his car is registered in New Jersey still. But I assume his mom would call me. So, it's sort of moot, and best not to ponder.
I should write about my weekend, which was lovely, rather than dwelling on how boring and sleepy today is. (It's too warm in here so that's not helping.)
We drove home via the Taconic Pkwy on Thursday evening, which meant we were home by 7 thanks to Dave's work letting him out early. So we got to sit on the patio, and I got to start my loads of laundry. Very nice. I did something like 7 loads of laundry, most of which I managed to hang out to dry, so they smell wonderful. I did package them up to bring home with dryer sheets interspersed throughout, because the sunshine smell fades faster than Bounce does.
So on Friday morning we lounged luxuriantly on the beatiful new patio my parents and sister constructed. It's nice out there-- shaded by lovely tall trees all day long, and cooled by intermittent breezes. A little bit buggy but not too bad. Around noon we decided to go out, and ended up settling on the Saratoga Battlefield as a nice scenic drive. Dad came with us and we rode in his Jeep, which was fun-- he had the top down and we all had our sunglasses and hairties.
So Dad gave us the comprehensive tour, which was a sore trial for Dave, but he passed in the end with flying colors despite the heat and his own sleepiness. (In other words, he managed to both look and act interested, and was pleasant and bright the whole time. Whether he'll pass the pop quiz next week remains to be seen.)
The Saratoga battlefield is absolutely gorgeous, by the way. I have photos I will post later. It's a beautiful scene, in a lovely area of NY, looking down to the Hudson, on strategic high ground, and the battle itself is a fascinating story of intrigue, luck, skill, and sheer guts on the part of both sides. It certainly gives the lie to the stereotype of the Americans hiding behind trees and the British standing in lines-- the whole park was first-growth forest and the British suffered terribly for lack of clear lines of communication. Anyhow. The problem was that it was so sunny, and I forgot sunscreen. So that's my sunburn for this summer...
We had hot dogs for dinner, and Fiona and her beau were there too... we got to see a bit of Ann. Oh, btw, on Thurs night we had a mini-RTH for Dave's benefit. If you don't know what an RTH is I'll write a novel for you later.
Fri night Dave and I went to see the fireworks in Clifton Park, because we couldn't think of a good vantage point in Albany. The places we used to go to sit have all been converted to parking garages now. So we went up to Clifton Park, and we parked at Shenendahowa High School and watched the fireworks from their lawn instead of fighting our way over to the actual venue.
It was nice, but then we couldn't get out of Shen's parking lot. So we sat in the parking lot for an hour and made out like teenagers, since neither of us had really done that as actual teenagers (having neither cars nor... well... members of the opposite sex... at our disposal). It was highly entertaining. You can't really do much in a Toyota Prius, but what little you can is much fun.
I have no voice. Ick.
Anyhow, then we had the family party on Saturday. I cleaned a lot, packed up my stuff, sorted things out, read some National Geographics, and then started drinking around 2 pm and never even got tipsy. Family parties are good like that.
Jessie and Maureen were there, and some old friends of the family we hadn't seen in years-- like Dad's friends the Luceys, and the Boves (whose son, Seth, was Fiona's boyfriend when they were 4), and all kinds of people like that. It was great fun.
Sunday we were up about 2 minutes too late for Mass, and we were ready to leave fairly early but I just ended up wasting time and poking around. We left around noon and took Rte. 9 alllll the way from Albany to Hastings. It was lovely, and we got great mileage-- somewhere around 50 mpg, I'd say, the whole way-- but Poughkeepsie is a shithole. It looks like Jersey City. Ugh. Other than that, it's a lovely ride. It took us about 3 3/4 hours to make the trip, but we were far more entertained than other routes allow.
Unfortunately I had no voice all weekend, and still have very little. It's so frustrating. People I haven't seen in years, asking what I'm up to, and I'm croaking out replies. Ugh.
I'm coughing less, though, so hopefully my voice will return. :-( I don't feel too sick otherwise, it's just the throat. Sigh.
Well, back to work, I guess.
