dragonlady7have you ever done anything so profoundly, elementarily stupid that you truly wanted to kill yourself?
try this:
spent 2 hrs searching for my old outlook inbox. finally found it in my disk's hidden folders.
found the new one.
to get back my 1000 emails from the last year, 2 yrs, some from 5 yrs ago, all i had to do was copy the old one and replace the new one with it.
i replaced the old one with the new one.
i realized immediately what i had done, and i canceled the transfer, undid the move, but it was too late. the old one had been erased in preparation for the new one to be transferred, and there was nothing windows could do to get it back.
aha, i had a copy of norton disk utilities the computer guy at work gave me when i told him of my troubles.
aha, it only worked on windows 9x, not NT/2K.

everything online was either expensive or too limited.
i've downloaded one file recovery tool that looked like it might work, but the disk the deleted file is on is damaged.
so, every 5 seconds (i've counted) it pops up an abort, retry, ignore message because the disk sector it's looking at is damaged.
it's probably utterly futile, but i've been sitting here for three hours pushing 'i' every five seconds.
we're on disk sector 66780 of 100000 by now.
it hasn't found a drive yet.
it hasn't found a file yet.
i'm typing this with one hand on the i key of the other keyboard.
it's hopeless and futile. because i was profoundly moronic for several seconds, i've lost half my correspondence.
oh this is new... the window isn't even appearing anymore, it's just making the noise. oh, there's the window again. Hm. wonderful.
But if it can't even read the disk, it's not going to find a file.
