dragonlady7I went out and bought a new hard drive. 60 GB, Western Digital. I could've got a Maxtor for the same price, but just FYI, the drive that seems to have died was a Maxtor, so I was a bit skittish there.
It cost me $89.99. I know I could've got it cheaper, but it was on the shelf, and the 80GB on sale for $59.99 was not.
So... Here I am. Whatever. I need the drive. I need to recover my files.
I got it installed, with Dave's help, and installed Win2K from the bootable disk I stole from work. Bizarrely enough, it never asked me for a serial number, or any of the things I had expected. It didn't take long at all. It was weird.
So...
I have Windows running. I'm transferring files from my old one to my new one. The old one seems to be behaving now. Perhaps the only problem was with the Windows installation files. Whatever.
The problem is that of course I have no drivers. I don't have my video drivers, so I'm stuck at 800 x 600, 16 colors. Ugh.
I started out just going for the most important of my files, but since the thing seemed to be doing so well, I gave up and am just copying them wholesale. i'm halfway through my eight billion mp3 files now. i didn't even weed out the ones I didn't want anymore. I just... there they are. All of them. Whatever. I'll sort them out once they're safe.
I saved all my porn too. ^.^ Just kidding, I don't think it's transferred over yet. The novel's on its way, though.
I don't have any programs, though. They're all splatted. I need to steal Microsoft Office. Crap, I meant to do that. Aw well.
I'm sleepy. Goodnight.
