somebody say his name to me over and over again and i'll get all excited like the dog. "Bertie! Guess who! It's DAVEY! Davey's coming!" and the dog freaks out and tears around the house as fast as her short little legs can carry her fat beagle body. It's so cute. I doubt I'm so cute when I run around like a twit. My ears aren't floppy, see. That makes all the difference.

I really did get a lot done last night. I got home, did crunches and situps, and had ONE cookie as my reward. (I was starving.) One cookie is not so much.
Then I went to work. I picked up the living room and moved the crap under the desk and cleaned off the coffee tables (we have three. Most of our furniture is coffee tables. And of course every one is covered in junk). I organized the papers, threw out the junk mail (I hope Dave didn't want to keep all those begging letters from his high school...) and put all the bills yet to be paid in one spot. I packed up the cards that have come for Dave (thanks, everybody! I'll give them to him tomorrow) and found my checkbook. I charged up my digital camera and the Newton. I Lysoled the white desk. I moved the frogs to where the lamp had been and put the lamp in a corner I thought needed more light. The frogs will get more light now and the lamp won't block light from the window. I made Dave's bed so it'll be ready when he gets home. I cleaned off the kitchen counters and washed the placemats we have on our countertops. I spot-mopped the kitchen floor after I swept it. I vacuumed the living room and hallway. I Windexed the glass countertops. I fed the frogs and wiped down the inside of their tank while they were in the cricket container. I even Windexed the Groke's tiny monitor, and 409'd the accumulated crud off her. I set her in the corner of the desk and hooked up her keyboard and mouse so maybe she could be used sometime. I wanted to make a Hypercard "welcome home" thing for Dave but that was beyond my attention span.
I cleared out the crud from the living room floor and found a spot on the shelf for the CD's. I took the wine bottles out of their ugly box and lined them up next to the bookshelf. And I called Dave on the phone and talked to him for an hour while I dusted everything that looked dusty, and wiped smudges off the windows.
It was nice to talk to Dave. I have missed him terribly. I think he's missed me. Maybe. He had just returned from Condrell's, the World's Best Ice Cream Parlor And Homemade Candy Shop. He was feeling very sick. He'd had a huge fudge brownie sundae. He'd had to finish it because it was so good, but he'd been close to hurling. So he had a bad tummyache. He seemed okay besides that, though. He and his folks went to see the lawyer this morning-- the appointment that had meant he'd had to stay in Buffalo an extra week-- and he and Krista just needed to sign one thing. That was it. Ah well.
Their inheritance was that they got to split the entire contents of their dad's sole individual checking account (everything else was joint with their mom, so she just keeps it as she has it)-- which contained the whopping sum of $15. (Dave got a $7.50 teller's check. He'll probably just spend it on tolls. If he doesn't blow it on ice cream first.) It was his fishing money, mostly, and he'd just used it to get out to Canada in the first place.
He and Krista were making jokes about quarrelling over it, but the lawyer really didn't think it was funny. Dave was incredulous to think that people could actually sincerely fight over this stuff. I can't really imagine it either.
So anyhow. I got to talk to him for a nice long time, which made me happy.
And motivated me to finish cleaning... most of the apartment. I didn't get to my room, really. There's a lot of work to be done in my room. Eep. It's a disaster area in there.
But there's no need to go in there just yet, so it's not important. I packed up this morning and tidied the last little bit. The living room looks like neat people live there (it's not impossibly tidy, it's just clean with a little bit of stuff around) and Dave's bedroom looks like some kind of neatfreak lives there.
So again, either Dave will be mightily impressed when he gets home, or he won't notice. I will be pleased. I like to come home to a neat place, so I can at least start the mess fresh. And this way Dave and I can have a snuggle marathon without worrying about much else. Oh how we'll snuggle.
Mmmmmmmmm.

OK. I'll be in Albany at 6:15 tonight, and I'll be in Buffalo at 2:55 tomorrow. Yay! Yay! Yay!
So exciting. I'm psyched. My cellphone's charging and I'm getting the website done so I can go, go, go. Go!
Man, I can't sit here for six more hours. Bummmmerrrrr.
