late morning
Oct. 23rd, 2002 01:17 pmi lounged about this morning without my computer on. it was a novel thing. wow.
whoa, dave sent me a link to this place-- free POP mail access!!!
Hm. Configured it and... it doesn't work. Well, we'll give them a chance.
Sigh.
Last night Zobar and I watched "The Others", that movie with Nicole Kidman where she's in this kinda haunted house with her two kids-- very weird, very creepy. Made it hard for me to go to sleep because I kept hearing noises. This morning I totally heard someone walking across the living room floor, after Zobar had left for work. I decided to ignore it, and indeed it went away. So, all good. See?
sigh.
Oh, here's a funny story from Zobar's work. Warning: Contains Content Which May, By Its Very Truth, Offend Those Who Love Microsoft.
For those of you who don't know, I work at a small company that backs up
corporate telephone systems and, in case it goes down, we will either
restore the backups or provide the backed-up files for download from our
website. A representative from Microsoft, one of our accounts,
contacted us this weekend, with an urgent request to recover the
telephone system of their sales office. Our company would not have been
able to restore it as quickly as they wanted, so it was recommended that
they download the files from our website and rebuild it themselves.
They grudgingly obliged, but became very chagrined when a
less-than-informative error message told them they would not be able to
download their backups. In fact, the only person who could download
them was our company's president. I was told about this problem this
morning, and, being solely responsible for having written the download
portion of our website, was more than just a little concerned. Upon
further inspection, however, it became clear to me that the reason they
could not download their backup files was ... a bug introduced in the
newest version of Internet Explorer. As for our president ... well,
he's a Mac user.
