Oct. 11th, 2002 04:12 pmAw. I just found a note from Dave, amidst the clutter and mess, that said "sorry about the squalor. i'll clean it up when i get a chance."
Bizzarrely, that makes it all OK. Bizarre. Bizzare. Bizarre. Yes. Bizarrely, that makes it all OK. (Perhaps not so bizarrely, but I had to figure out how to spell that before I slipped irretrievably into senility.)
The place is a terrible mess, but already, the frogs are set up, with a new day-lite, and a new water bowl (don't tell mom, i'm using the beautiful bowl Alice gave me. But it looks so pretty. The frogs don't appreciate it, but at least while the cage looks nice, I'll leave it there as a surreal but decorative accent.
I've also given all the plants homes. That also is somewhat surreal, given that I took the liberty of untwining the philodendron strands, afer hanging it from the curtain rod in Dave's room, and now his bedroom window is adorned with a curtain of living green (i had no idea the plant was that big. it's been all twisted around itself since I got it and have never quite had a proper place for it.) There's my biggest remaining jade plant in the center window of the living room, another small one in each of the two other windows, and the tiniest in the window of his bedroom, in the prettiest pot, among the philodendron tendrils. The sad spider plant is on the TV and an enthusiastic one is on the microwave, but I might switch them; there's not so much room on the microwave.
I shan't get too involved, though, because the whole apartment-- well, parts of it-- will have to be rearranged at some point. So many spider plants were good for 119 E. Hen in Rochester, because it wasn't quite such a sunny house. This apartment gets sun at all the windows so I can't perch the spider plants in the windows or they get fried, like the sad one on the TV.
I know Zobar won't care about the plants, but they had to have an indoor home. And I think his place looks more beautiful already with them there.
I packed my car beautifully, I have to say. The plants were nestled in among the lying-down shelves, protected on three and in some cases four sides from being crushed. And I managed to fit my computer monitor, and the desk chair, and the rolling chair, and the desk and little dresser and the shelves (of course), and seven or eight plants, and my speakers, a laundry basket full of clothes, a little clip-on lamp, the frogs and their 10-gallon tank, my duffel bag, three pillowcases full of stuff... i'm getting tired from typing. my dad put the dresser and shelves and desk in, and i did the rest this morning. Maybe i am related to him after all. ^.^
Ew. My keyboard's dirty from being in this place. Ew.
If only I could carry that desk myself... well, I can't, so I'd better tidy up and rearrange what i can for when zobar gets home and can help me. I want to have this place roughly arranged and tidied a bit before we leave this weekend, so that we can come back to a decent place. And I can get on with applying to jobs on Monday, rather than having an excuse to futz around here.
I can't decide... should I leave the couch facing away from the windows and the TV on the opposite wall, or should I move the couch to face the kitchen and set up the TV on the small wall next to the kitchen door? I think that'd make the living room better-- put the shelves under the windows, maybe, or even the desk...
but anyway. I'll go speculate on my own somewhere and stop taking up bandwidth.
by the way, the drive was partially pleasant and partially shitty because of rain, and more trafficky than i thought it would be, but not too bad really.
So, bye for now. Anyone with bright decorating ideas for me, send me an IM or leave a comment.
:-p
