dragonlady7Today I was going to get up early, go out for a walk, take a shower, go to the grocery store and return all the deposit bottles, go to Troy and keep the cats company for a while, feed them and the like, maybe brush Stephen so his coat looks a bit nicer. Then I was going to explore Troy a bit, visit the magazine section in the library and see if any magazines looked like they might be interested in a story by me, etc., then I was going to come home and read a bit more about Vietnam.
Well.
I was awakened at approximately 6:45 by my father knocking on my door. He apologized for waking me and proceeded to tell me that the water pump had failed, completely and totally, and so the house had no water. A repairman would come today, and they needed me to wait for him. I knew where the water pump was, right, and the water tank, and could let the repairperson in to see both. If I needed water in the meantime, there was plenty of water in the buckets and barrels we keep under our downspouts, so I could take a bucket and pour it in the toilet to flush it, and it would probably be safe to drink but it'd be best to boil it first.
So, I'm drinking juice, though I might make myself some tea soon. You have to boil water for that anyway. (Of course the teapot was left nearly empty. We don't really refill things, around here.)
Brr. It's around 63, identical temperatures inside and out, or so the thermometer in a north window tells me. I need to find out from Abbie what to do about winterizing the frog cage; I know they can't stand cold very well but I don't want to try and put them down for hibernation.
I think I will go and put that kettle on.
So, housebound for the day. I knew I'd find some reason not to go on with my plans of being productive today.
Well, there's always tomorrow, right?
