in an internet cafe on bleecker st.
Jul. 2nd, 2002 10:38 amIt's hot today.
There was haze this morning over the water, and the buildings of Manhattan were blue and faint through the window of the Pavonia-Newport-bound Light Rail car. But the gaping hole in the skyline was still clearly visible. For some reason it really depressed me.
The chattering Hispanic group around me cheered me up-- there were three or four women, one a wheelchair-bound ninety-something-year-old, and with them five or six children under ten. Directly behind me was a woman and a girl of probably five, who was chattering loudly and clearly in a beautifully clear mixture of English and Spanish. "Ahhh... que color es? Blue, o purple, or red?" The English words had no trace of a Spanish accent, which is something I know I can't manage when interspersing words of other languages.
So I've managed to find an Internet cafe to check my mail and give my current phone number to people who are around... It's a darn good thing this cafe was where Dave said it was, or I'd've been totally lost. I was proud of myself for finding it, all the same.
I'm a decent navigator, I'm just way out of practice.
dude, the tape they're playing in here must be like "best of north american frog noises" or something; it was a green tree frog a moment ago, and now it's spring peepers. There might be some kind of music behind them, but the construction outside is too loud for me to hear it.
I'm enjoying my stay with Dave. I'm really not getting much done, job-search-wise; I bought the NY Times but the classifieds section was missing from the paper!! So I read all the articles yesterday, and cleaned Dave's apt. Typically bachelor-style, it wasn't that the place was filthy, but just that it hadn't been cleaned, so the dust and lint and the like had built up. So I had fun cleaning it. It's a sweet little place, lots of character-- wood cabinets and windowsills and floors, tile bath. No furniture, but getting more filled-in-- really nice bed, and The World's Ugliest Couch (bequeathed to him by Darius).
Things are getting interesting with Dave. In a good way. More on that will probably come later.
Oo, off to lunch with leopard lady and eggplantia5. Yay!
shit, i've been online forever. this is gonna cost a bomb...
oh well.
:-D
laters!
