it's SO MUCH FUN!!! that's the only thing I miss: using the shrinkwrap. I was mostly shrinkwrapping ancient (like 1905) Russian geological surveys, so I incidentally learned the Cyrillic alphabet while transcribing the labels. God that was a boring job. And torture, because I was bored out of my mind surrounded by books and not allowed to read them at all. Don't work in a library if you like books.
no, no. i worked in a bookstore and wasn't supposed to read the books... but i found it great fun just to be surrounded by them cos i am a super book geek.
it's not really a machine so much as a big roll of plastic and an electric paper cutter (namely, a wire that would get hot so when you pressed it down, it would cut the sheet of doubled plastic, and fuse the edge together. Sometimes not so well. Most of it you had to do by hand. And with a hair dryer. Whee!
no, i want to READ them. Even the backs. The insides. Anything. And my job was to be producing things, and they were always mad at me because I wasn't fast enough, so I was always miserable, trying to go faster, but couldn't help reading the titles, or the backs, or both, and occasionally it was just so weird that I had to read the summary on the inside cover or something... sigh. It was awful. They didn't like me very much.
