ohhh my god this story is too long

which one am i talking about

all of them

specifically the current one but oh my god what is wrong with me.

(I’m trying to review the whole Home Out In The Wind series to figure out what loose ends i really really need to wind up and. it’s just. too long. all of them. oh god.)

If reader feedback could be at all helpful at this point, the loose ends *I’m* really invested in are, in order:

- spiritually uplifting threesome sex

- Poe and his dad making up

- honestly you could just handwave the rest in 500 words and I’d be happy (”and then the bad guys flew away! the end”)

You’re amazing, and you work so hard at this, and it shows in your writing. And in how much joy there is to read what you write, regardless of the timing. Your epics are my favorite epics.

Tie up the ones that you feel like tying up.  You can always add more later, or not.  We’re gonna adore it regardless.

I wholeheartedly agree with all of the above! Bad guys gone, good guys home, Poe and Rey and Finn making up. The last one is the most crucial. What happened to Poe’s brain and will he recover? Will Finn get to medical help in time? That’s what I want to hear! You’re doing great. No need to flay yourself. <3

These are all wonderful suggestions, additions, and sentiments. And helpful, too. I just– there are so many things I introduced and mentioned and started to lay out, and it’s kind of a betrayal of my past self if I don’t bring some of them back and weave back in some of those loose ends and so on! Not to mention frustratingly inconsistent, if I world-built myself a thing, like a cultural practice or a character’s preference, and then didn’t refer back to it at an appropriate moment, when doing so would really tie the thing back together and be satisfying, and not doing so is kind of a missed beat or dropped stitch.

So far the chapter is about 10k long, and it addresses most of those things, but the spiritually uplifting threesomes are crowded out by the action and will have to be moved to the epilogue, I think. (IN TYPICAL ME FORM HA HA) (but come on then there gets to be like a honeymoon. like a whole fic where it’s like, finn, you’ve been hurt, you’d better take it easy. here lie in this bed. here don’t move, let us bring you bonbons. here we’re going to stress-test your heart. cool, you’re cured, but we’re still not letting you get out of this bed.)

I got most of the main plot things tied up, but I need to still work Teeny and the others back in somewhere. Other than that, though– I was just trying to glance back through the stories and find details– like Poe having little protection spells from Norasol, of course Kes must too, does Kes give Poe one? does he put one on Finn when nobody’s looking? – and I just, I got like, halfway through the first story and had to put my head down on the arm of the couch and moan a little.

This story is too goddamn long. I had completely forgotten about most of the actual events of the first story. (In my head it was 10k long and was just Poe and Finn making out. I forgot anything actually happened in it.)

This is too long and you are all champions for reading it. No wonder poor alby was so shocked when she’d said “oh write a little fic I’ll draw u a doodle” and I came back like a giant labradoodle puppy and threw fuckin War and Peace at her. Holy shit.

This post, pardon me, is also too long. I should go. Thank you, everyone, for your feedback and reassurances.
