Maybe you could do a few one shots after you finish the main story… Tie up any side character loose ends and explain that villain arc.
Oh, I do plan on it, but I don’t know if I’ll have time to delve deep enough into the villain’s arc to explain it. So I suppose I need to come up with something. I guess I can kind of have an epilogue where someone kind of explains it? I don’t know.
I had a sequel where it was sort of dealt with half-planned, but I just don’t know if I’ll have time or the taste to get into it. Especially in the current climate, where– I don’t want to get into it too deeply, but mostly I’m just running out of patience for works of fiction where in order to somehow amp their villains’ Badness to the Max, the original creators just sort of paint them with a Nazi-colored brush, which then means that nobody can investigate their motives because They’re Irredeemable, because in real life yes, fascists are irredeemable, but my god, now we can’t actually tell stories about these fictional characters because they’ve exceeded the Aesthetic Threshhold, and it’s super annoying and I really wish so many of my media fandoms weren’t so goddamn lazy about villain design, because it turns my stomach too and I don’t want to think about it. I’m fucking sick of Nazis and couldn’t we have bad guys painted to look like Romans or maybe spiders or, I don’t know, Americans or something instead, for fucking once? No, Christ, we had to give them jackboots, now I have to look at that, and if you want to try to come up with a plot that isn’t just They’re So Evil, We Must Fight then you’re shit out of luck unless you want to make yourself sick or possibly get blackballed by the fandom’s Cool Kids.
It’s like. Every fandom. I don’t participate in a lot of fandoms. I never thought I’d miss the Wraith from SG:A.
(People wrote few but awesome fics where the wraith got to semi-redeem themselves, or at least were in the end, the victors, and they were so creepy, because they were semi-insectoid, and also vampires, and it was so creepy and icky and my god, they eat people, of course nobody thinks they’re sunshine and rainbows– but oh, those fics were good. Disquieting and not for the infinite-reread pile, but so good. I love fics where the heroes and villains get subverted, and SG:A was so good because the Ancients were so complex and often not actually forces for good, and I loved that, and you can’t do that when the bad guys are Aesthetic Nazis even if the source text totally gives you some great ins, i.e. the entire prequel trilogy pointing out how Problematic the Republic was, etcetera– but I just. I don’t. I don’t want to read about fascists. Why were you so fucking lazy when you made your fucking villains, guys? You had all of outer space to work with, and you had to fucking go to the same fucking place. Ugh.)
So. tl;dr I’m sick of Space Fascism so I don’t want to write any plotty wrap-ups. Anything else I write in this fandom is most likely going to be porny oneshots. That’s it. So if it doesn’t get explained in an epilogue, it is going to cop itself out into a Strange Mystery We May Never Understand, because I’m fucked if I’m going to write another epic and have to think about Space Nazis again.
Unless maybe Rogue One gives me a good plot bug, but I can do that, because the Empire falls. We don’t know yet what happens to the FO, and while I’m sure Disney won’t let the Space Fascists win, they’re also not going to tell us that until the trilogy is over, and I can’t bear to fucking think about it.
