a couple of weeks before the election I got pulled into a text discussion with my mom where I was saying things like “this is what the gop party platform says about title 9” and “if my possible future children are ever fired because they’re gay I want them to have legal recourse” and she was going “hillary is going to ruin this country” and I was like okay??? give me some specific examples??? my parents have lived in CA for 30 yrs. man being home for thanksgiving is fun.
Yeah.
I don’t know how we didn’t see fascism coming– anti-intellectualism is one of its core tenets, and we’ve been riding that wave steadily upward my entire adult life.
I am incapable of understanding the appeal of having “nerd!” be an argument-ender. Like, oh, you got me! I know too much about this issue! Clearly I lose the argument by virtue of uncool-ness, we’ll just have to do whatever your ignorant ass thinks is funny in the moment because I’m too nerdy to be listened to.
Why the fuck wouldn’t you want your world leaders to be literate and informed on the issues! Why the fuck! Why the fuck!
I feel sick and helpless and I can’t stop worrying. It’s nauseating.
