*hugs* I’m going to zoom in on one point in this and say– I’ve been an adult for more than a decade and I only learned of my ADHD last year. It’s entirely possible that you might have it and not know. Sure, difficulties with executive function like organising and tidying can also be a symptom of other health issues, but. If you think it might be ADHD? It’s entirely possible that it is. I hope you feel better soon. I hope your turkey will be delicious. Take care.
oh, no, I’m sure I have ADHD, and when I went to my doctor to ask for a diagnosis, she dismissed me with “you’d know if you had it”, and that was like four years ago. Another doctor, when I said this is not a question, I know I have this, agreed that I should go for evaluation, but that was as far as the conversation went, and I am at a bit of a loss for how to proceed. Where does one go for such a diagnosis, if one’s primary care physician has no interest in anything but antidepressants and telling you to take some fish oil supplements? (Thanks, guy.)
I’m going to try a psychiatrist, I think, because I know some men who’ve managed to get diagnoses like that, and I’m hoping i can find one that’s willing to accept that women have this problem too. I just need to somehow discover a treasure trove of executive function in order to make that happen. I’ve been trying for about a year to get myself together, so, I won’t hold my breath, but. Maybe there’s medication or therapy I could try, and maybe there really just isn’t. Either way, my temporary plan is that one of my sisters is coming to visit for Christmas and she’s going to help me sort things. (I do the same for her when I visit, so. This is Middle-Little, who has very similar mental issues to mine, and is much better about proactively seeking out treatment.)
I am not having any turkey this year! I processed a lot of turkeys, but there weren’t really enough to go around. I’m only having THanksgiving with two other people, though, so that’s fine: I claimed a 6.8 pound chicken from the freezer instead, and that is my trophy. We’re going to do all the trimmings anyway, and I’m in charge of the fancy cocktails, which I like to do. So, I am confident it will be delicious.
Thank you for this sweet note!
