Oh! So I was at a party last night and one of the other guests #1 used to live in Brooklyn and frequently returns for social events and #2 has a 3-year-old daughter, and therefore told me, #3, there is a Superhero Supply Store in Brooklyn.
No for real, and he said when he lived there he was always sort of bummed he didn’t have a kid because a lot of the fun stuff is kid-oriented. But he was there recently and his daughter is old enough to find it all entertaining, and– THEY HAVE A CAPE PREVIEW MACHINE. You get on this grate in the cape you’re trying on and they turn on a wind machine!
There’s a secret door that looks just like more shelves, and you go through it and there’s a HUGE back room full of more wacky stuff!
There’s, like, fake cans of matter and antimatter, there’s…
OK why have I not Googled this?
In fact, it’s called Superhero Supplies. And why has nobody written fic about, say, maybe a confused Bucky taking it seriously, or Natasha thinking it’s really funny and buying everyone gifts from there all the time?
C’mon! I live 400 miles away or I would be down there like instantly, that’s so cool.
Superhero Supplies. In Brooklyn! Whaaaat.
From the website: “The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. is a real place! We are the storefront of 826NYC, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting students, ages 6-18, with their writing skills. Our dedicated tutors, storytellers, and workshop leaders help 2,300 New York students a year. Your purchase goes toward supporting our programs. If you would like to make a direct tax-deductible donation, you can do so here.”
All the storefronts:
826 National
826NYC’s Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co.
826LA’s Time Travel Mart
826 Michigan’s Liberty Street Robot Supply and Repair
826CHI’s Boring Store
826DC’s The Museum of Unnatural History
826 Boston’s Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute
oh my gosh thanks for making this post actually *useful*. I just Googled enough to verify that this guy wasn’t shitting me. In my defense, I was blinded and confused by the adorable video he showed me of his mop-headed baby child in a cape in a wind machine, so– that was all I was thinking of. THAT’S SO COOL!
