Exactly. You’ve gotta have some stake in the system to be expected to toe the line. We don’t, anymore. And it gets worse for be. Hubby’s not just POC, he’s (legal) immigrant POC. And we’re on the verge of divorce. So now I get to join the ranks of disparaged single moms who drain our society, with a mixed race daughter, and I get to worry for my ex husband who no longer has the shield of a white spouse
Oh no! My condolences on the divorce, that never is a fun time. Ugh! Well, at least if he has his papers in order, he’s got a leg up on the people whose programs are going to be shut down before they can complete the process, and all!
I feel sort of burnt, and like there’s no right answer. I hate all the established organizations but I also know I don’t have it in me to start my own movement, so now I have to do the unglamorous and unexciting dance of trying to shop around for a movement I can believe in that isn’t in some way secretly repugnant, that is radical enough but that isn’t so fringe as to be immediately discounted, etcetera.
The bitter, but strong, consolation of all of this is that it is easier to tear down than build up, and so I can focus energies on tearing down everything the new government tries to do, without having to do any of the exhausting work of building up, because fuck them, they didn’t built a fucking thing in the last eight years, so now it’s my turn.
We all know it won’t work like that, of course, but it’s a nice fantasy.
