I wish I were the kind of author people sent questions to. I also wish I were the kind of person who was good at answering asks.
I am working very hard at not writing a long novel. I want to wrap up the Found Cat AU today and get back to chapter 9 of Never Wrote A Letter tomorrow. I also need to finish a sewing project and a painting project today. And I need to do almost three weeks’ worth of laundry. So.
But I wish I knew how to talk about the fact that I randomly banged out a 25k novella this week that I neither expected nor intended to write, instead of literally anything else I could have done with my time. I can’t help but sort of worry about it, because I’m clearly avoiding something. Nothing motivates me like avoiding something. And I don’t know what.
Anyway.
In the chapter I posted last night that I didn’t mention on here (I kind of hit a stopping point, then just put it up and fell into bed, so it wasn’t until this morning that I looked it over and decided whether it was okay or not), the gig Poe’s going out of town for is to play in a mariachi band, and i think this is hilarious (his side jobs are as a musician and a bartender, and the mariachi gig is the best-paying and also most annoying, because he is not Mexican in this AU either). And I don’t know that I’ll actually ever mention that in the text of the story, because part of the function of this story is that it is entirely from Finn’s POV, and that’s not something Finn cares about.
So. Tragic, but I don’t have time to tell the stories that must go with that, including all the times Poe has endured gigs at Mexican restaurants by pretending not to speak any English, and the times that backfired, like once when he ran into a friend there after two solid hours of shaking his head and looking puzzled whenever anyone asked him anything, and then some rando he’s known since high school is like “oh my gosh hiiiii i haven’t seen you in foreverrrr nice hat buddy” and he’s like… shit.
OH well.
(Is it really 25k? Almost. Shit. So much for a fucking oneshot. God.)
