Lost my resolve and turned the heater on. Brrr. 45 in here. Might just… go to sleep and see what the heater does. If it’s so hot it wakes me up, I’ll shut it off. Otherwise, I’ll sleep through. I don’t have to save fuel, I’m leaving tomorrow.
This next bit of the Lost Kings series has the farm in it, the sort of commune/compound where the refugees from Xicul all live. I haven’t decided how many of them there are. We also get Lita’s POV, and I’m enjoying her a lot.
“I’m sure Norasol is convinced she’ll eat our baby boy alive,” Lita said, “but, for the record, Norasol always underestimated Kes’s father, too. Kes is stronger than he looks. If she eats him alive it’s because he wants her to.”

“Sometimes,” Lita said, “I think you’re too much.”
Norasol’s smile widened. “I’m always too much,” she said.
oh wow just in the time I was farting around with this I can’t see my breath anymore, though I’m still freezing. Hey. Progress. Also I need a much smaller heater out here. I kind of hate kerosene heaters, they smell awful. Have I mentioned that the only way to shut this one off makes it stink to high heaven? ugh. At least a half-insulated ger isn’t so airtight that carbon monoxide will kill me or anything.
