3: What’s your favorite line of narration?

This was lovely because I had to reread NWAL and I am trying to get the next chapter update banged into shape so it was just as well I did.

I think the language in this story is not particularly beautiful. This story is very much a product of me having my head down and trying to logistically wind up a number of complicated plots. I’ve hammered out some reasonable work for it, certainly, but the language is the least of my concerns. I suppose writing epic stories you do tend to not have the time or attention to hone paragraphs to the same extent as, perhaps, one does for shorter pieces. Not that I’d know.

Anyway, I know for a fact that my favorite *scene* is when Rey pulls Poe’s hair until he cries; let’s be real here, that’s the entire reason I expanded the series. I initially was going to just have the shorter, spiky little story between Finn and Poe, but I badly wanted to incorporate Rey, and I wrote that scene well in advance of any of the rest of the story.

So it’s hard for me to single out a line of narration within that, but I love the whole scene, and that’s the most polished part of this whole story, which I sort of fear might be obvious– and sort of don’t care, because of course it is, it’s the best part, it’s most of the whole point. I mean, the climax of the story will be the whole point surely, but I haven’t written that yet so I can’t really say. LOL.

All that said:

He sobbed instead, and she wrapped her fingers into his hair and pulled a little to emphasize her point, and she could feel how the little tug of pain in his scalp combined with the pressure on his jaw washed down his body in a sparking wave of sensation, right down the line between pain and pleasure and edging over a little into sexual arousal.

Not to be, like, TMI, but I feel like that’s really vivid and true and I was rather pleased with conveying that. I’m not… exactly… into that, but once, this really really pretty girl brushed my hair kind of hard, and I was like, oh i get why people like this.

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?

It’s sort of overdramatic and cheesy but so am I.

“I have come here to die for Leia Organa,” Kes said.

I actually hadn’t come up with *quite* all of their backstory when I wrote that scene, and there’s– there’s a lot, the next-next update in the Lost Kings series, if I ever publish it (let’s be real, demand is low and the polishing is labor-intensive) is more of a look at how Kes came to be with the Rebellion and why, and Leia is a big part of it– but that line came out as very Poe and I liked the parallels with Kalonia’s earlier bitter observation, and Kes not knowing about that but reaching the same conclusion anyway.

Ask me more questions from this list it makes my day! | and helpfully, a link to my AO3! Doesn’t have to be recent stuff!
