damn, just heard about Jose Fernandez dying, this sucks. I know a lot of my followers aren’t baseball people, but he was a great young pitcher for Miami who was going to be an all time great. He died in a boating accident.
Just about everybody has seen this gif of him

Wait. It was THAT guy?
Now I’m 1000x sadder.
Oh no this is a terrible way to realize this, but– so the thing is I never see characters that clearly in my head, but for Kes, I had such a clear vision of his smile, the way he’d look, and I couldn’t think where I’d seen it?
This gif. The “yes I did” smile. That’s it. That’s where I got such a clear vision of him. That big, toothy, playful, I-don’t-have-to-be-cocky-at-all grin.
Oh no. I didn’t know this poor late departed gentleman from Adam, but somehow his smile had gotten lodged in my subconscious just from seeing this famous gif of his brilliant catch. If that’s not a truly amazing smile, I don’t know what is.
I’m so sorry to realize who he actually was, this way, and I’m so sorry for his family, and reading about his life and his incredible struggles to get to where he was, I’m so deeply sorry for his family and fans and everyone who knew him. (While escaping Cuba at 15, to pick just one amazing story, he was on a crowded boat, and heard someone fall overboard, and jumped in to save them without knowing beforehand that it was his own mother who had fallen.)
