Doris Salcedo: Disremembered I, 2014, woven raw silk and nearly 12,000 needles.
I have seen this. It was in the Chicago museum of modern art, whatever that one is called. It was an exhibition of her work. Other items included a room-sized cloak made of individually-sewn-together rose petals, and a series of men’s dress shirts impaled on iron spikes made from old bedsteads. It was SO CREEPY, so moving, the whole thing– all of it was about victims of political violence. There was a room full of handmade wooden tables with grass growing from them, and it was a crowded room, and out of the corner of your eye the upended table legs looked like a crowd of people. Even if you were alone you didn’t feel you were alone in the room. It was– bizarre. I wanted to cry the entire time I was at the exhibit.
