1) How many jobs have you had, and which was your favorite?Â
Oh man. I don’t even really remember every job. Here’s the awful, depressing thing: I’ve hated every job I’ve ever had. This is such a fucking bummer. Every job I’ve ever had was horrible and soul-destroying in some crucial, unsurvivable way. And so I’m always like, I should look for another one, and yet, every job I’ve ever had, I’ve loathed, and so when I’m applying to jobs, I can instantly see why I’ll hate each one I see. So, that might be why I’ve been at my current was-supposed-to-be-temporary basically-minimum-wage gig for like seven years now, because. My alternatives are all terrible.
All I’ve ever wanted since I was about ten years old was to be a professional author, and it turns out that every job I’ve ever had that wasn’t that has fucking sucked. But you know. Authors don’t really make livings nowadays, so I’ve never had the chance to try.Â
It’s probably just as well, I’d probably hate that too.
(Quick list, in case anyone seriously wanted to know: catalog envelope stuffer, slide binder/library employee, rare books conservation intern, technical writer, search engine optimization specialist, webdesigner, bartender, cocktail waitress, receptionist, technical writer again sort of but they never wanted to actually give me a proper job description so I’m not really sure, camera sales person and photo lab operator, online sales person, part-time farm wife. Of those, I’ve only made above $20k/yr bartending, and I liked it okay but it was all-consuming and exhausting and I used most of it to put my Dude through college. And for the record, I’m not actually anyone’s wife, but the work I do on the farm is all the unpaid shit that a wife is expected to do in her free time, and I’m not paid for that either, so. You know.)
6)Â When did you get your first cell phone? What was it like? (Did it have a screen? Could you text? Was it a brick or flip?)
I got a flip phone in ‘02 and I did not figure out how to text until I got my second flip phone, I think. I don’t remember anything about my first two phones, but my third one was one of those Motorola Razrs and it was The Shit and had a camera and I loved it.Â
