All jokes about writers thriving on the tears of our readers aside, I spend a lot of time emotionally destroying myself for the sake of telling something true. Some things have knocked me on my ass for weeks. If I ever seem delighted to have caused distress with a story, it’s simply because I am so relieved to have someone else join me in mourning for my imaginary friends.
