You can definitely still get stuff like this, and it still really hurts when your kids leave it on the floor and you step on it with bare feet
These were from Hot Topic in the 90s and were, specifically, big multi-packs of fairies, butterflies, dragonflies, and daisies, and some of them were sort of vaguely menacing, and I had forgotten about them but Ann had a metric fuckton of them. She used to very carefully do her long blond hair in microtwisted cinnamon buns, so that the sides of her head were just crawling in tiny fairy clips. The effect was not nearly so girly as you’d think, but more disconcerting. I don’t know that we have one single photo of the phenomenon, but her varsity track jacket is still monogrammed “Leia” because she was given that nickname based on elaborate hair.
Also those big white butterflies glow in the dark, and used to change colors in the sun but I think they don’t do that anymore, since it’s been twenty years.
I bet they’re almost as bad as Legos to step on, though.
