So I haven’t been doing any music posts for, like, ever, and music clearly isn’t in the prequel stuff with Kes and Shara the way it is for Poe– he gets his musicality from his own self and some other formative influences in his upbringing, not his folks. Both his parents have a pretty low-key relationship to music in that they’ll join in when it’s going on and love dancing and so on, but it’s not their main thing.

This song came up on a mix yesterday and I thought it was very, very, very Shara. She’s not exactly folky. (I put a Missy station on for my commute home and then I got way out of any kind of anything headspace but it came back on when I got back in the car this morning so I’m feeling that groove again, at least.)

[Also I feel like maybe people think I chose the music I did for Home Out In The Wind because that’s just what I listen to all the time, and like, I’m not saying I don’t love that stuff, because I do, but that’s not actually my main style of jam full-time?]

If you want to bring it up to the main body of the saga, I think it’d be really funny to imagine that Poe is super well-known for performing all the folky stuff and people assume that’s what he listens to all the time and yet the first time Pava’s on a long haul with him he sticks in his Space 8-Track of Space Missy (let’s be real, she wouldn’t need to be adapted hardly at all, if you watched that video, she’s pretty scifi) and Pava’s like whaaaaat is this and Poe’s like, my favorite oldies, Mom taught me the dance, and he’s grooving in his seat and Pava’s like but this song is about getting laid, and he’s like my mom was a special lady also shut up or you’re getting out and walking.

Also I love the idea of a reverse-retro vibe in the Star Wars universe, like the Republic was super cosmopolitan and the Empire takeover blasted them into the stone ages in terms of culture, and shit is kind of grass-roots folky now in the New Republic and there’s sort of a retro throwback feel to the super-bass-electronica stuff from the days of the fall of the Republic. I don’t have too much attention to devote to it but I like the idea of it. Also the last time I was in a dance club was possibly sometime in the last century so I wouldn’t really be the one to flesh this out in any detail. I have literally never made out on a dance floor in my life.
