On blog safety

There are various posts going around saying “This blog is a 100% safe space.” I would like to be able to reblog them, but the truth is that I don’t know how safe my blog is for you. I can’t know that. I don’t know your triggers. (Though if you tell me them, I will tag for them.) I don’t know your tolerance.
I will talk about things. I will occasionally post discourse. I do have opinions and I will state them and back them up with the reasons why I hold them. If I disagree with something I may well reply to a post saying ‘I disagree with this and here are my reasons.’ I may reblog a meta post or two, and that meta post may be not-entirely-on-board with something that you hold dear. I don’t know.
I may feel that the way you prefer to look at characters is out of character for them. If so, I might say “are you sure about that, because [canon evidence] suggests otherwise.” If I do that, I’m hoping for a friendly chat where we compare each other’s points of view and either come to an agreement or agree to disagree. I’m not trying to attack you, though I know there are people who would see that as an attack. If you’re one of those people, this blog may not be a safe place for you after all.
What I won’t do is attack anyone for any ship. I believe it is your inalienable right to ship whoever you like, however you like. It’s your inalienable right to love the characters that you love. Villains are cool, heroes are cool, sidekicks are cool, weirdly obscure extended universe characters are cool.
It’s my business to enjoy the things I like the way I like them, and to be prepared to explain why I like them like that, if necessary. To the end of understanding my own preferences better, you may find me reblogging meta that you find uncomfortable. Again, it’s not meant as an attack on anyone, but I know some people will take it that way.
So yes, all I can really promise is that you will not find me difficult by malice. I will not deliberately set out to hurt you. I will not attack anyone on purpose. I believe that it isn’t my business to police anything you do in your fandom life at all. If I really don’t like what you do, I absolutely will not harass you over it. I’ll just quietly unfollow you and we’ll go different ways in peace.
But I will not stop being myself, liking the things I like and talking about the things I think about in order to make you comfortable. So judge for yourself if my blog is safe for you or not.
