it isn’t that much longER than other things you’ve written, yeah, but it is pretty long in absolute terms? Home Out In The Wind and Can’t Go Home This Way are each basically novel-length by themselves. Two novels in seven months doesn’t sound slow at all, especially since you took the time to have people beta-read it. And there’s the Kes/Shara story, too. You’ve done a lot in those seven months.

I am gonna have to run some stats, I think, and try to figure out why I feel like I’ve been running on a hamster wheel with so little to show for it. It’s convenient that I saw the movie on 1/1 and started work on around 1/7, because that means my stats are kind of clearly demarcated.

If I select all the completed and in-progress docs for the entire Home Out In The Wind series, there’s 195,000 words, so far. So that’s published chapters plus the divided sections of the last story that I’m working on, the roughs of it. Which is, fair enough, a long novel.

And that doesn’t include Kes and Shara (~25k), or the prequel story with young Poe and Iolo Arana (~10k, fragmentary), or the post-script stories with the morale surveys, or the Hux/Poe sidebar (8k), or the sidebars I’ve had up as Tumblr exclusives.

So I guess it depends. We’ll see, I think, at the end of the year. I seem to average around 300,000 published words on AO3 in a year, though there aren’t that many years so far so who knows. But I’m on track for that.

I just feel like I’ve been writing so much, and it’s hard to have perspective about that kind of thing.
