Okay, this made me laugh so hard I almost cried. Sorry you didn’t figure out what was barking, but perhaps you have taught the cat to have better manners. :)

I don’t know that anything could teach that cat manners. This is *probably* the same one that made the ger her home last fall, and paid rent in tiny corpses, so. To her, that *is* mannerly. Probably.

As far as getting laid goes, it was pretty great, I’m not going to be coy about that. I was a little stressed-out because Dude was on vacation to come along with me, but I wasn’t actually vacationing, so i spent a lot of time working my ass off while he was kind of sitting around without much to do. He was good enough to step up and volunteer for a couple of things– he made enough spanakopita to feed a small army, and did everything but saute the spinach, which I wound up doing– 8 pounds of spinach, which would approximately fill the entire cargo space of a Volkswagen Golf hatchback, and took me over an hour in two giant frying pans– while he assembled about six square miles of fillo dough.

He also saved me while I was babysitting at one point, when Farm Baby had a meltdown and he picked up a stuffed snake puppet and told her she should chill out. This meant he was roped into playing the part of that snake for like, an hour, which involved reading her books in the snake’s voice, and then for a solid 45 minutes or so he repeated the same two lines while she re-enacted the same thing over and over. (It was a stuffed banana she’d hidden in the couch. He (as snake) demanded, “Where’s my banana?” and then she’d show it to him and he’d say, in mock delight, “My friend’s new home!” and then they’d repeat it. It was unfathomable and also incredibly funny, in that way when things loop around funny to boring to overdone to inexplicably hilarious. So now I occasionally say to him “My friend’s new home!” in the same flat mock-delighted high tone, and it’s stupidly hilarious.)

I wish I had video but I don’t. Alas.

But the stress is made up for by the fact that sleeping in the ger not-alone is #1 way less scary and #2 way more uh, interesting. If the chupacabras had showed up and growled at me for an hour while I was sleeping there alone I probably would have waited until dawn, sprinted to the house, and never left the building again. At least this way with someone in there with me I knew that it was likely to get slowed down devouring him so that I could reach the baseball bat in time to at least save myself.
