The Amtrak National Route Map, 2015.
would you like to go to chicago and you don’t give a shit about south dakota or wyoming
amtrak is the system for you
All roads lead to Chicago and then stop just outside the city limits for about 90 minutes to let the cargo trains who own the tracks go first.
You can leave Chicago on time, but you won’t return that way.
The Lakeshore Limited comes from Chicago and goes through Buffalo to Albany on its way to New York City. The Empire Line originates in Buffalo and goes through Albany to New York. We have learned the hard way: NEVER take the Lakeshore Limited from Buffalo to Albany, because once a train is late, it loses priority and has to yield to all other traffic.
The route is now called the Late For Sure Limited.
