I think I’m gonna do it, I got half the story polished already. I don’t know if I was waiting for a sign from heaven or what, but I’m going to try to knock out the whole Kes/Shara prequel over the course of this weekend. The first 10k is almost ready to go. The other 15k is… well, it was done, and then I wanted to put in a final porny epilogue (this isn’t a sweet story…) and that’s not done and it’s hard to finish those at work.
I’m also driving across the state tonight and tomorrow (a stopover in Rochester), and I don’t really have a destination, my bed’s been given away at the other end, so I may not really wind up in a final destination until Sunday. But why do things easily when you can do them with difficulty. And I do, I want to start putting that story up before Leia dumps the rest of the info in Can’t Go Home’s chapter 6.
So. I don’t know how many people actually are into this, but I’ve seen a few hints of interest, and maybe I’m not a lunatic for writing this.
(Also, like, not to be weird? but I really like writing het ships? only when I post them sometimes people are Super Invested and Weird about them? So I like this one because it’s canon but mostly offscreen so I am hoping nobody’s Really Invested and so I won’t get quite so much vaguely-threatening Do It Right kind of “praise”? It’s just… like… I’m a bi woman, writing a “straight” couple doesn’t make me One Of Your Kind, I’m writing it because I like that sort of thing too, and you know one man and one woman doesn’t necessarily equal straight ok. Please, please please, I’m tagging it properly so you can read what you like, but please don’t come to me and tell me how glad you are to find something that isn’t slash, because it does not take a great deal of sleuthing to see that I am also a slash writer and as a queer person myself that kind of disclaimer squicks me right the fuck out. There are innocuous reasons not to like slash, probably, but there are no innocuous reasons to tell an author that.)
(I am only parenthetically-asiding this because this has happened to me and it is creepy ok.)
So anyway. I’m going to work on that today. I still don’t know how to organize it though. I guess I’ll just plunk it in the series. It doesn’t matter what order people read them all in, it’s just important in my head how I present the info– plus, I’m sort of deliberately having the events be told differently from Leia’s after-the-fact POV and Kes’s during-the-fact POV, and then when Kes appears in the after-the-fact story he’ll have yet another take on it after 30 years of elapsed lifespan. Etcetera.
