Well I’m super jealous of people who can sustain EPIC LENGTH and PLOT that isn’t just “X happened to delay it but then they banged” which is where I’m at - the grass is always greener, I guess! (I also really enjoy the cut bits you share here, so never consider them wasted)

I wish this current EPIC had more banging in it. If I were made of free time I would do porny AU segments because I am sorely feeling the lack. (I think of myself as a smut writer but really by percentage of the stories I publish, I barely rate! I think Can’t Go Home actually doesn’t deserve its Explicit rating at all, but I got burned early on by setting something to Mature and then forgetting to fix it when many chapters later it turned out to have really explicit porn in it, and I’ve never recovered from my mortification when someone pointed it out, so I just sort of set everything to Explicit and then disappoint people. I guess I’d rather disappoint than accidentally pornograph.)
(If I could edit any of my subroutines I would make myself less stupidly fragile. oh my God it does not benefit me to still be mortified about something minor from like, two years ago now. why. Why can’t I have that brainspace back. why can I not take reasonable criticism like an adult. It is so annoying. IIRC the correction was even pretty gently made! but I can’t Handle That Sort Of Thing and I possibly lay in a hole in the ground for several days afterward, it’s all a bit of a blur. I do a lot of lying in holes in the ground, at least metaphorically. It’s inefficient.)
I don’t think many of my cut bits have actually wind up cut, they’ve just wound up pushed into stories that I don’t know how to organize and publish. But I am very much of the nothing-is-ever-wasted school of thought! If nothing else, you learned something by writing that segment, even if it didn’t fit in the main continuity.
I am really struggling about how to organize side-bits and prequel things. The next chapter of Can’t Go Home is going to have some Dameron backstory reveal material, and I’m fretting that I should have put up the Kes and Shara prequel first, because surely finding out how it ends will wreck that. But, I mean. Literally all we know in canon about Shara is that she #1 was a badass and #2 is not still alive, so it’s not exactly a spoiler. But on the other hand– well, I just don’t know if I can publish two WIPs concurrently, is all, and I haven’t *quite* managed to finish the end of the Kes and Shara thing, and, anyway.
Wahhhh logistics. Another subroutine I’d edit is giving myself +4000 in Ability To Make Pretty Basic Decisions. (Since I’m definitely in the negatives on that stat. Not that I have ever role-playing-gamed or whatever this stats thing comes from, I am actually a fake geek and don’t really know.) It is truly unreal, the things I dither over for extended periods of time.
(I am currently procrastinating on packing my car to go visit the farm for 9 days, which I do literally once to twice a month, and every single time it’s this fucking ordeal to decide what to bring with me, and it literally doesn’t matter. Except how the last three visits, I brought only seasonally-inappropriate clothing, which was partly the fault of truly unexpected weather, but partly, come on, I am a 37-year-old woman, how did I not expect to need a winter coat in February in New York?) (Wait I am 36. Wait. I– fuck, numbers aren’t real, it doesn’t matter.)
