like this idea that pushback against toothless insufferable mass media is met with a let people enjoy things-esque hostility has created a class of people who are convinced that their being able to notice that marvel at al. is a bland unimaginative incurious tool of social placation is tantamount to, like, serious countercultural work. serious countercultural work is divesting from hegemony and pouring our energy into alternative sites of creation and criticism. spending every iota of your mental energy dissecting why xyz mass media du jour leaves you unsatisfied retains a cultural discourse arena wherein xyz mass media du jour is all we have to talk about, all we’re allowed to engage with.
