i guess this sounded dismissive bc of the short reply format, sorry for that. and i didn’t say it as someone who would put all weight on women, just as a hypochonder. but it did sound like that a bit. sorry and good luck.
Oh no, I didn’t take it as dismissive, sorry if I sounded abrupt in return!
No, and it’s a very good idea for most people. I just– I had this idea in my head for a long time that if I was ever in a long-term relationship with a man I was Going to Have to Go On Birth Control, like there was no option there, it was just How It Had To Be, and once I did and found that it made me crazy and was complicated and required me to get access to doctors that I couldn’t at the time afford, it was very upsetting. So it kind of led to a crisis and it turns out that actually.
Actually.
Birth control is not a women’s issue and shouldn’t have to be, and if you approach it from that point of view, it makes it a bit less scary. But, unfortunately, given the nature of our society, almost nobody who isn’t a woman ever pays attention to it. I just feel like it’s expected that it’s up to the woman to deal with it however, by weight of cultural expectation, and to never really need to mention it to the man. A Good and Responsible man will ask, but that’s as far as that goes. Usually.
Anyway. I did not mean to sound like I was pronouncing from on high, either!
